Assessment and Treatment Centre

The Role of the Assessment and Treatment Centre

The Assessment and Treatment Centre is a short stay inpatient unit for a maximum of nine people.

The nursing staff may carry out the health assessment within the person’s home, rather than them coming into hospital, if the Psychiatrist feels this is more appropriate.

The Assessment and Treatment Centre only provide assessment to adults with:-

  • a learning disability
  • who live in either North or South Lanarkshire

The reason the patient may require a period of assessment by our team of nursing staff is if the Psychiatrist feels there is deterioration in their mental health or challenging behaviour.

We treat the people who use our service with respect, equality and dignity; refusing to tolerate racism or discrimination.

The Assessment and Treatment Centre is also known as ‘Kylepark’ and is situated behind Kirkfield Cottage in Kirklands Hospital.

There is no local bus service directly to Kirklands Hospital, the nearest bus stop is situated in Bothwell Main Street next to the Bothwell Bridge Hotel.

Visitors are welcome to the unit but are requested:-

  • To avoid meal and bed times including therapy sessions
  • To phone before they visit
  • Only two visitors each visit due to the limited space within the unit.

Occasionally staff from our Learning Disability Service may request family / carers to join in therapy sessions.

If a patient has another hospital or outpatient appointment to attend during his or her stay, we will make every attempt to ensure this is accommodated.

The nursing staff would undertake assessment of the patient’s transport needs. An appropriate request would be made to Patient Transport Services, which is free of charge to the patient.
