Physiotherapy

The Role of the Physiotherapy Department

Welcome to the Physiotherapy Department, Adult Learning Disability Service.

We are based at Kirklands hospital, Bothwell and our service covers the whole of Lanarkshire, via the community Learning Disability Teams in North & South Lanarkshire.

The people we see are 16 years old and over. We tend not to become involved in a person’s care until they are entering the transition phase between Paediatric and Adult services.

We work in a wide range of environments including family homes, day centres and residential care settings.

The majority of our referrals are to address complex physical health needs, where the person has an associated learning disability which places limitations on their level of functioning, resulting in their inability to access generic service effectively.

Local Services

We hold Orthotic Clinics at Kirklands Hospital on a weekly basis.

The clinic takes place from 10.00am-12noon and is led by the Orthotist supported by the Physiotherapy staff.

Clients attending the clinic are referred by the responsible Physiotherapist. Clients attending the clinic are allocated with appointment times.

We also hold monthly special seating clinics at Kirklands Hospital. The clinic is led by the bio-engineer from Westmarc Wheelchair Services and supported by Physiotherapy staff.

Clients attending the clinic are referred by the responsible Physiotherapist. Clients attending the clinic are allocated with appointment times.
